SUNDANCE 2009: US Competition Docs Spotlight World Preems from Berlinger, Cutler, DiCillo, Garbus, Metzgar, Pray and Timoner

It's one of the most exciting times of the year here at the blog - the end of one season, celebrated by Oscar shortlists, Spirit Award nominations, IDA celebrations and critics lists, and the beginning of the next, seen first in Amsterdam at IDFA and now the unveiling of Sundance's Class of 2009.Each year when we reach this point, it's hard to remember when titles like MAN ON WIRE, TROUBLE THE WATER, ORDER OF MYTHS or ROMAN POLANSKI: WANTED AND DESIRED were unknown quantities.ÃÂ So it is with
So What's This Book About Anyway?

Without intention or premeditation, I've spent the last little while engaged in a common marketing practice known as "It Doesn't Matter What It Is. Just Shut Up and Buy It." (See: fast food hamburgers) But as a few of you pointed out in the comments section in the previous post, perhaps knowing what the eff Rage Against The Meshugenah is about would stimulate more enthusiastic pre-sales.Thus, upon written permission from my editor, the following is the marketing text currently being used to
Second Fla. Judge Rules Against Gay Adoption Ban

Another Florida judge has ruled that the stateâÂÂs ban on gay adoption is unconstitutional. Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Cindy Lederman ruled earlier this week that there was âÂÂno rational basisâ for barring gay men and lesbians from adopting children. LedermanâÂÂs ruling allows Frank Gill to adopt two boys he and his partner have been raising for four years, The Miami Herald reported. The newspaper noted that a state child abuse investigator had asked Gill to take temporary care of them.In her 53-pag

mental illness (typically schizophrenia, depression or bipolar disorder) often spend more time in psychiatric hospitals and are 3 times more likely to smoke than the general p

Acupuncture and Western Medicine

Acupuncture and Western MedicinePosted on December 3, 2008 Filed Under Acupuncture | Comments OffNearly all of us have grown up with the same kind of medical treatments, and go to the doctor when we have a sore throat or a sore foot. American doctors, and in general, western medicine, have always been interested in the structure of the body, and how each individual organ structure should look when it is healthy. The tools western medicine have developed have been to see these structures bett

mental hospital. That is exactly what Michael Greenberg faced when his 15-year-old daughter was, as he puts it, âÂÂstruck madâ on July 5, 1996. Hurry Down Sunshine details his familyâÂÂs experiences in dealing with her seemingly sudde
