Comcast-DailyCandy: Interview: Sam Schwartz, EVP, CIM; Pete Sheinbaum, CEO, DC

Some acquisitions barely need explanations. That's not always the case when Comcast (NSDQ: CMCSA) Interactive Media opens the virtual checkbook; people are still asking me about Plaxo and today's announcement about DailyCandy, while less eyebrow-raising, still needs some 'splaining. CIM EVP Sam Schwartz and DailyCandy CEO Pete Sheinbaum did just that during an interview soon after the news broke. Neither would talk numbers but sources close to the deal say it's about $125 million. (They also de

Comic-Con 2008, Part 1: The Con Experience

Kristin hereâÂÂFrom July 23 to 27, I was at Comic-Con for the first time. For the past few years I have contemplated attending, since it is the largest pop-culture fan event in the world. Last year the Con sold out its 125,000 tickets for the first time, and that feat was repeated this year. Comic-Con has become important for the launching of blockbuster fantasy and sci-fi
movies. Ian McKellen, on break from playing Gandalf, made a surprise appearance there in 2000 to promote the first X-Me
MPAA to Make Site with Legit movie Links

Rather than trying to fight individual violators of copyright, the MPAA is creating a website with links to legitimate
movie sources, like

Underwhelming Enthusiasm

I'm sitting here trying to work up the energy to go upstairs, get a shower, get everyone dressed, and go to the park. It's a beautiful day. We SHOULD go to the park. But it's just so much easier to sit here and watch Monsters, Inc. 10,000 times. I SHOULD go upstairs and fold 6 loads of laundry, but I don't really have it in me to do that, either.I hate it when I get this way. I think I'm just taking my downtime now, while I can, since we're going to be going to Washington DC from the 5th to t

Why moviegoers don't read Comics

Superhero
movies are huge! Each year there are multiple superhero
movies that make piles of money and keep teens and adults buying popcorn throughout the summer season. But the comic book industry is dying. People don't buy comics like they used to. A number of reasons have been suggested for this: kids playing computer games too much, comics costing too much, comics not being new-reader friendly, comics not being kid friendly, large storylines that you cannot pick up from the middle... the list
